Attending Microsoft Gamefest (with Lots of Natal Love)
I have to say it’s days like today that remind me why it’s so cool to work in this industry. I’m presenting a talk (about enabling User-Generated Content on Xbox LIVE) at the conference, but as a part of that I’ve also been able to drop in and watch the keynote and some of the Natal presentations.
I have to say there’s nothing more rewarding than watching developers (professionally cynical by trade) get an opportunity to try out the latest Natal tech demos and being wowed. Arthur C. Clarke put it best:
“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”
We’ve come a long way in the last year, and I kid you not when I say the magic is real. Your friends and family will laugh, smile, and feel like a kid again when playing some of the Natal titles coming down the pipe. And even those of us who are oldschool jaded gamers will feel a thawing of our icy hearts – trust me on this. Sadly I can’t give any details, but I think you’ll be really impressed by the inevitable announcements and demos which will happen before launch. Looking forward to being able to talk about it more when you’ve all gotten your own hands-on time!
