[Edit] Must See: Zero Punctuation on Heavenly Sword

Full props to Jerry at Penny Arcade for pointing it out, but you must go watch this new Escapist feature called Zero Punctuation. It’s a commentary on the recently released Heavenly Sword demo for PS3, and is quite sincerely the funniest thing I’ve seen in years. I kid you not, I spit coffee on my monitor this morning laughing! Check it out!

[Edit: Found that the creator had done several other videos before being picked up by the Escapist. You can find them here.]

Oh yah, saw his Darkness demo review on YouTube. He came off to me as the usual guy apparently too stupid to actually understand a videogame and too lazy to play it, but good enough with insults that he can pass his attacks as "clever". They come ten-a-penny in the stand-up comic industry.

Still, a perfect match to the overpretentious, overtly political and undertalented Escapist pseudozine; it fits perfectly with their constant attempts at passing the use of big words with actual writing talent or, you know, actual PLAYING THE DAMN GAMES.

  • PhillyRampage

    That was pure awesomeness!!!

  • Ozymandias

    I’m with you Philly. :)

  • Deano

Yes utterly brilliant.  He also has probably the most incisive assessment of the whole RE5 racism row to date.

  • islandkiwi

He is very funny, loved his Fable and Darkness reviews.

  • Ozymandias

Deleting comments with swearing – no need for that.

  • cc99999

That’s a very cynical take Xwar. I don’t consider myself stupid or lazy and I thought the footage was brilliant.

Videogame writing is barely one step above Hi-Lites for Kids as far as complex.

What this guy has that you’re not giving him credit for is comedic timing. plus the clips are well edited and illustrated.

The Brits really should take over the games journalism industry- they are the only ones keeping it interesting.

felt the same about the darkness demo, unless i am very crap at the game..  but i couldnt finish the demo and got stuck at the very same place..

The videos are great though.. had to watch the Heavenly SwordSleep vid twice

Whether you agree with the opinions or not, you can’t argue he lacks style! Fantastic delivery and I especially enjoyed his take on the RE5 controversy. I’ll have to check out the previous vids.

    Thanks for the links.

any comments on the EA Wikipedia foolishness?

  • quickshade

Whats funny is I played the demo and can say with 100% that he nailed it. Except that party about the kiki cat or whatever the hell they called it. That scared me.

  • OS Perry

I thought his review of Darkness, while trying to be comedic, was spot on, in all sorts of ways.  I actually thought the same thing, in muddling around & playing it.  I thought it, he said it.

  • nc454

I was laughing the whole time when I too spit out my drink when he was talking about racism in RE5.  It was the last line about fried chicken.  I’ll leave it at that.

  • Ozymandias

Re; "any comments on the EA Wikipedia foolishness?"

Nah. People are people, and it’s impossible to know whether this was a misguided individual, or some sort of corporate plan. More likely the former, considering the number of people at the company.

All a tempest in a teapot, anyway. Anyone who is serious about editing Wikipedia and wants to cover their tracks just needs to hit their local coffee shop with Wifi. <shrug>

Heres an interesting announcement by Sony…

"PlayTV for PS3 is a twin TV tuner that will launch in early 2008 in the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain with other countries to follow. Recorded programmes can be streamed over a wireless internet connection to the portable PSP or transferred permanently to the handheld console via a USB cable." To see the complete article goto

Definitely a competitive move against XBox, Media Center and Extenders.  Hopefully Microsoft has some good IPTV news share with us soon.  Preferrably that IPTV services will be available to anyone with a broadband connection.

The next insalment of this is availble. It’s a very funny look at psychonaughts.

I have to agree with what’s being said!
