Map of the Star Trek Universe

Just came across a map of the Star Trek universe that’s worth sharing. It’s a bit frightening in that someone actually spent the time to document this, but it’s awesome nonetheless. Every time I see a territorial boundary map like this I long for a virtual game version. Am hoping Sins of a Solar Empire satiates that desire somewhat – hearing good things about it so far.

Hoping to post more often going forward – things have been a bit crazy with some projects, and GDC being a month early didn’t help anything either. Will be at the show next week, though… looking forward to spending some time in the City by the Bay!

Its a scan of a page from Star Trek Star Charts: The Complete Atlas of Star Trek. You can find it on Amazon.

Not that I don’t like or appreciate it, and the work that was put into it, but I think any map of any universe is rubbish if it’s only 2D.

Looks like Toshiba is pulling the plug next week.

I’ve done everything I can to convey possible win-win solutions for Microsoft and Toshiba.  Doesn’t look like any of it will ever happen.  The last idea I have for them to salvage something out this fiasco is to upgrade existing Toshiba HD-DVD players to tie into XBox Video MarketPlace.  The HD-DVD players have the necessary USB and Ethernet ports needed to make it happen.  I’ve said from day one that these devices should be Media Extender enabled.  For all the promise and value XBox 360 delivers, Microsoft’s mismanagement & failed promotion of HD-DVD certainly tarnishes it.  Something needs to be done.

Its done, Toshiba drops HD-DVD.  This will unfortunately raise the value of PS3 with its built-in Blue-ray and probably drive sales :(  Hopefully Microsoft had been using the last 2-3 months to develop a contingency plan and will make some sort of announcement in the next day or so.  They need to do something to boost consumer faith in their entertainment ecosystem.  Perhaps announce that XBox will be the first device that will be NetFlix WatchNow enabled (Subscriptions?).  And/or announce that XBox Video MarketPlace will be available to Zune customers.  And/or announce that XBox Video MarketPlace downloads can be streamed to other devices in the home. Something!
