Now *this* is a phone…

As usual, Japan seems to always get the coolest phones. Check out this new Windows Mobile 5.0 phone from Sharp… similar to the Cingular 8125 with the slideout keyboard, but it's phone-sized and sexy as hell. <sigh> Maybe we'll catch up in a year or two.

Sure beats my UTStarcom PPC6700 phone – Hands down.  I really, really like the Windows Mobile based handsets.  I’d be lost without the one I have now (considering it keeps track of pretty much everything from my schedule & email to contacts & music) but I’ll be the first to admit it’s bulky & awkward.

I’d be all over this if it were here in the U.S.

Wow, that is a nice looking phone… wouldn’t mind trading my Sidekick II for it!

You’ll find a lot of feature rich phones outside of the US.  The major wireless companies here in the US are focused on giving you a feature stripped down phone, and make you pay for additional services.  Say we’ll disable the MP3 of your phone and we’ll give you the option to stream it to your phone for free.  Crippled Bluetooth so you cannot share things between phones.  Japan has always be on the leading edge of cell phone tech.  it’s sad that the rest of the world has not caught on to that.  I thought i read somewhere that Nippon Telephone and Telegragh NTT was trying to get it’s foot in the cell phone market door here in the US. That would bring a lot of innovation to the business.

If that phone came in anything but white and fit in my jeans pockets without looking beat up within a week (like my iPod) I’d want one.

For the time being I’m perfectly happy with my RAZR V3x, and I do wonder if I’d need (and use) any of the extra functions. I already hardly use any of the "advanced" functions of my phone.
