Official Playstation Blog Arrives!

Yep, Sony has created a Playstation blog to allow the gaming community to more directly communicate with the company. No snide comments here – this is a positive development for the entire community. While I may personally strongly disagree with many aspects of the PS3 strategy, the fact that Sony is willing to have a dialog with gamers directly is a great step forward. I hope the feedback they get helps improve the PS3 – I mean this sincerely. Competition is good, and helps drive us all.

Welcome aboard Sony!

    About Time. 1st Post!

  • 360 tag: JJS UK

Sony isn’t the only console company that doesn’t listen to it’s customer’s. MS had/still has the 3 red lights of death to resolve, the non-Elite Elite product, Marketplace imbalance where some items are good value and other’s a complete con eg Cheat codes EA. Lack of AAA games other than shooter’s. For example the best RPG to date is still Oblivion release over a year ago.. it’s no wonder sales are dipping there’s nothing of quality coming out for the 360 recently unless you’re a FPS fan. Complete lack of quality RPGs, adventure games. I know this is gonna change come August but it’s been a longtime again.

PS I was very disppointed with the Halo 3 beta too.. average.

I don’t get the point of their blog if they are going to lie. Notice their most recent posting talking about how difficult it can be to develop on the PS3. In every scenario they state that the PS3 is a more powerful machine, with more features, and this is why it’s more difficult.

More powerful? Since when? That is news to me (and everyone else as far as I know). More features? HUH? Better lighting? Um..you mean washout effects? Better physics? Come on…this is the PS3 we are talking about…physics?

Oz….please oh please..why on earth are they posting such garbage?

  • The Hedon

Considering the 3 rings are in the minority, and within the normal failure rate average,  MS  has nothing to reply to, or solve.

The elite is an elite. Not sure of your point there.

MS doesn’t have to do anything about the Marketplace pricing. That is up to the developers to decide. It’s a store. Walmart can’t decide that Huffy is charging too much for their bikes and force Huffy to sell them for less.

The AAA games are on the 360 BIG TIME. Forza 2 was the most recent AAA title.

Sales aren’t dipping actually. They have been stellar, crushing the PS3 sales, and have had RECORD software sales as well.

And then there were 800,000 people very happy with the Halo 3 beta.

You might want to do some research before posting nonsense JJS

I was looking through the first post and was quite amazed at how fast people jumped on that Maytrix guy who actually brought up a good point. Despite the source of the actual article, it stated a few things as “fact” without backing up the claim. Also pretty surprised at the people spouting off stuff about the PS3 and 360 despite probably having little to no game development experience.

Frankly, from first hand experience I’m not impressed with the PS3 so I’m basing my judgments off of just fanboy ire. I think that if the system gets a nice price drop to around the 360′s price range, I may go ahead and purchase one cause there are a few games that have caught my eye, but I think that I stand among a large group of people who look at what they say, and then what they offer, and am confused by the disconnect.

wow more features huh? This makes the PS3 more difficult to program for because you have more options. You and the Major are way to even handed in your comments. You guys need to stop playing that game of being fair to all. Ok I mean just speak your minds on what you really think. It is apparent that Sony will take every shot at MS that they can.

  • JimmyDanger

Ah Ozy – you must really be hanging out for some decent new games to play on your PS3.

Also – Overlord (next month), Forza 2 and GH2 (last 3 360 "retail" purchases I made – OL on preorder – and I bought the year old Saint’s Row yesterday finally – at classic price so I’m not counting it – though it wouldn’t matter anyway) beg to differ with the "FPS’s are the only quality 360 releases recently" comment 2nd from top. Obviously you have the blinkers on JJS UK. Take them off for sec and look at the trees.

I haven’t bought a FPS since Prey (or maybe BF2MC) – unless GOW (bought 8 months ago) or Lost Planet (bought 3 months ago) count. Which they don’t. In fact Halo3 is the only FPS I plan to buy in the next 6 months or so…

Okay granted GH2 and Forza are top titles. When was ‘Saints Row’ recently? I still believe there’s a lack of quality RPGs, adventure and action games on the 360. The only quality RPG to date is Oblivion.. this since the 360 launched, that is dire.

As to my point of non-elite Elite. I meant the ‘Elite’ is simply a 360 with a 1.2 HDMI, splash of black spray and the larger 120 HDD… nothing special or Elite there. No quieter dvd drive as standard, no 65mm cores, no wifi.. I could go on but I don’t need to rub salt in a obvious wound.

Finally the 3 lights of death is above the % Microsoft predicted hence why they offered the extended plus have been basically forced to admit the console does overheat. I won’t go into scratching dvd’s because MS have admit this issue already.

In conclusion I’m not knocking MS merely pointing out there’s alot of room for improvement. I’m sorry to any who take offence but I believe my view to be fair and informed. See you on Gears.. to curb stomp you..

  • The Hedon

MS has NEVER admitted to overheating. MS has NEVER said that their failure rate is above industry average.

So you are wrong on both counts.

Secondly, did you have a better name for the Elite? It offers more than their Premium. So Elite is the top of the 360 line, and it offers more than the PS3 60gb.

I have a quiet DVD drive in my premium, so I don’t see your point there. And why would it need wifi? The majority of the public wants wired. It would be a waste to put a feature such as wifi on there when it’s rarely used, and it’s performance is WORSE than wired.

Not a single scratched DVD here either. Granted, I never moved my 360 from vertical to horizontal…which scratched CD’s, just like the PS2 does.

  • Pote Buster

A failure rate that is in line w/ industry standards does not cause a company to quadruple their warranty. Also, the Elite offers plenty less than a PS3. No wifi, no HD-DVD drive, no rechargeable controllers, etc. Whether or not you believe the public wants these things is beside the point of the Elite offering less than a PS3. Also, you can stream any media on your computer to  a ps3 from any net connection, so hard drive space doesn’t even matter at that point. Oh, and why am I paying MS $50 a year for horrible online play? Oh sure, it’s more solid than what the PS3 has, but it in no way compares to the PC. Oh, and scratched discs are a somewhat more common than the PS2 had.

And I’m not just some sony fanboy. The only next gen system I have is a 360, but w/out any good fighting games, the damn thing collects dust most of the time. Just got Monster Madness though, so it’s not completely worthless to me.

  • The Hedon

No, what causes a company to improve their warranty is competition. MS didn’t up the warranty until the PS3 was released and announced with a year warranty.

The Elite offers plenty more than the PS3 60gb. The PS3 60gb doesn’t come with a headset for online gaming, doesn’t come with controllers with replaceable rechargeable batteries (requiring you to buy an entirely new controller once the battery will no longer hold a charge), doesn’t come with an HD cable (neither component nor HDMI), doesn’t come with a remote (HD-DVD add-on includes this remote), only comes with 60gb vs. 120gb, and the PS3 doesn’t include the software/hardware for the Windows Media Center Extender like the 360 does. As for streaming, the same can be done on the 360.

And why is the PS3 FREE online play horrible, full of lag, and doesn’t offer cross game invites, unified chat, or unified cross game text messaging? Where as with Xbox Live, we get a completely unified service, including truskill ranking (no ranked gaming in PS3 online), cross game invites, cross game chats, cross game texting, and completely centralized gaming statistics, and achievements. We also get more online game support (where as with the PS3, it’s up to the developer to offer the online portion, which many have been choosing not to support).

Sorry, but if you were in the PS3 forums, you would see the record number of PS3′s crashing, overheating, and being returned, including not only scratched disks, but disks that are NOT ejecting.

It’s unfortunate that the PS3 is such a failure. As just announced, the PS3 AGAIN only sold HALF as many units in May than the 360.

Sony got some excellent news today from BlockBuster.  Would you agree that an early end to the format war, one that ends with Blue-Ray as the winner, would greatly benefit Sony?  Do you think that might be their plan so they can declare victory going into the holiday season?  How can you Microsoft/XBox to BlockBusters announcement?
