Where did Inverse Earth come from?

Had a couple of folks who were curious how I found that Inversed Earth image; it’s not the sort of thing you generally come across surfing the web. Simply put, I’d been pointed to a great blog called thought bucket, run by a gentleman named Jack Turner. I don’t know him, but I’ve enjoyed the random, eclectic collection of things he’s posted. Check it out!

Deep thought for the day: In the future you already finished reading this sentence.

Awesome, Jack is an amazingly bright kid, I’ve known him for quite some time. Even though I see him every couple weeks I didn’t even know about his blog! Always weird when you read about people you know in real life.

I absolutely love that thriller video. Who knew Philippine prisons could be so fun?

Ozy, whats your take on Target’s announcement? significant?

I second that. Would be interesting to hear what Ozy has to think about the BluRay and HD situation now.

(P.S. UK needs video marketplace on Live to stop all this war anyway. Isnt that the biggest HD Video seller on the net?)

Are you speaking of Target carrying Blu-ray players only? If so, it’s "just" another drop in the bucket – still hard to tell which way things are leaning. The Target thing could be simply a large end-cap buy… I don’t really know enough on this to say.

Still think we’ll have a better sense of things at the end of the year – but either way, it feels like both formats will be around for years yet.

Ozy, yes that was what I referring too..thanks.  It does seem vague as to what the deal entails.

Just out of curiosity, is it therotically possible to add blue-ray compatbility to the XBox HD-DVD accessory via firmware?  I’m not suggesting you do that voluntarily.  But you got to admit, if it were possible, it would be an awesome plan B and give XBox HD-DVD owners peace of mind.

As far as I know it’s not possible.

Tis a shame :)  Unfortunately, BJ’s Wholesale is doing the same thing as Target.  It seems Sony is buying their way to format dominance.

Another potential play against Blue-Ray is to beef up the video rental capability of XBox with monthly video download subscription plans combined with some sort of NetFlix offering.  I’d propose offering New XBox Gold Level members one month free of video rentals.  I assume Reed Hastings joined Microsoft board of directors for a reason.  There has to be something both Microsoft/NetFlix can work on that is mutually benefitially.

    Have a great weekend.
