Yet Another HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray Article

This one is from a site called CampaignHD, and is obviously a very pro-HD-DVD site working to encourage publishers to support the standard. Just want to be very upfront about that as this article is definitely down on Blu-Ray and quite positive on HD-DVD.

I’d normally not share because of that, but I did find the sheer number of documented links in the Blu-Ray issues section to be interesting. Worth taking a read if you’re following this struggle – but make up your own mind on the merits of the supporting links.

That was a good read, but yeah, almost biased.

Some PS3 fanboys will see this as another FUD. I hope you link also some HD-DVD bad news.

"Bluray seems to be in the WORST IMAGINABLE state of shambles that anyone could have predicted."

Yeah, I’m getting a slightly biased vibe from it, MeToo.

I think it’s fairly pathetic for an employee of any company to persistently troll about competitor’s products by proxy. But if you’re so committed to some bizarre notion of ‘brand loyalty’ as to find that acceptable, the good news (for you) is that this standard of journalism is all you’ll be getting.

    I loved this line:

"I just cannot picture any worse position for the format to be in at this juncture, 18 months after the start of the format war in April 2006, apart from if it also had lower sales than its competitor."

THEY COULD NOT BE DOING ANY WORSE unless they were… er… >cough< actually losing…

I don’t doubt the rest of the article (starting from the numbers on), though. It’s not too outlandish to think of Sony doing way too much high-stakes gambling without planning the software ahead just from what we’ve seen publically with the PS3.

(I probably misspelled that 4th last word there. Forgive me, it’s 3 in the morning and I’m running IE7 without addons so that means no ieSpell.)

If MS supported 16:10 resolutions i would have bought an HD DVD drive. Currently games look awful being stretched from 16:9 to 16:10

  • Xwar

Bof, whoever wins, I hope we get sub-$3 writable media and cheap writers soon. DVD-R is getting tight for me! :-P

  • lol

an MS site obviously has to talk its own things only lol

BR still has majority of studios, and market shares. Get over it M$.

Every 360s are designed crap by MS that it fails, get over it M$

  • John-Paul

Blue Ray, HD-DVD, who cares? At least the 360 is kicking the PS3′s booty all over the map!!

lol, sony’s getting beat like a red headed step child and all the fanboys can do is strike out at the competition while they hide behind screen names.

Of course, you would think… if this person loves PS3 so much why would they be here wasting time daily to troll Oz’s board when they could be playing all the great PS3 games instead….

    …oh wait.  Nevermind.

  • Xwar

He probably has "all three consoles", including 250 billion broken 360s, or some other such BS.

Remember, those that recognize Microsoft’s utter dominance of the current market (and ridicule the PS3′s absurd price-to-features ratio and total lack of games) are just XBOTS!!1

  • John-Paul

Hey no fair! Oz is playing guitar hero 3.

Oz, About Two Worlds… it’s the kinda game you need to play a couple hours to start to love it.  If you pick it up and judge it based on the first half hour you’ll probably hate it.  An amazing game done by amazingly bad developers.  End result, good game if you can get past the technical flaws.

Heh, I just bought Dead Rising for the third time.

Xwar, I couldn’t agree more.  I hold no bias, I don’t love MS and kiss their hineys.  In fact, being a mac fan I’m as far away from MS love as you could get…

That said the Xbox, and the 360 have BOTH provided great gaming experiences.  Call me an X-bot, whatever… I just like good games.

    So, lets get this straight.

The XBox 360 is selling twice as many units than the  PS3, has more titles, more third party developers, more exclusives etc etc, and so the PS3 is a disaster of monumental proportions

Blu Ray disk is selling twice as many disks as HDDVD, has more titles, more studios, etc etc and it is Blu Ray which is a disaster of monumental proportions?

I’m sure there is some logic in there somewhere, but I must admit I am struggling to find it. Perhaps I need some Microsoft kool-ade :o )

Honestly HD-DVD is dying and the longer its around and has support the longer the consumer is going to suffer.

  • John-Paul

I think the price of the disks is a factor no matter what format you choose.  In a world where DVDs are dropping down to 5 bucks a pop… 35 to 40 dollars is just too much to pay for one movie.  My thoughts anyway..

Can anyone, someone please tell me if the new Xbox 360 HDMI cable works with ALL Xbox’s or just the elites?? The hook up looks the same as the regular X-box AV port… for just a second I started getting excited that maybe now I can use HDMI.  But I also remember MS making a big deal about HDMI NOT possile on the regular 360s so I dunno… anyone?  The product listing on Xbox.com does not address this at all.

  • JohnCz

HD-DVD manufacturers need to just focus on getting the players down to $150.  I’m thinking another XBox HD-DVD price drop is warranted before the end of the year.

  • Twisk

Odd that some people choose to hide what they’re playing in their Gamer Cards.

…it’s like talking with a Vegetarian, you just can’t trust ‘em, they’re always hiding something (in a Vegetarian’s case it’s the fact that they WANT to eat meat).
